World Osteoporosis Day Celebrations in Russia in 2014

 Using all IOF recommendations for WOD celebrations, Russian Association on Osteoporosis (RAOP) developed directions and recommendations for all Russian osteoporosis centers with the focus on "Osteoporosis in Men" and the slogan - "Healthy bones make a strong man." A competition for the best poster was held all over Russia and the best three posters in three age groups were chosen.

Different events were held in Moscow , St. Petersburg. Vladivostok, Yekaterinburg, Ivanovo, Yaroslavl, Yakutsk, Cheboksary, Tomsk, Surgut, Samara, Ufa, Kazan, Khabarovsk  and other Russian cities.

   The year 2014 was a record year for the number of innovations in the organization of events. Osteoporosis centers participated in the following public sports events: Nordic Walking Festival in St. Petersburg, the Run "Golden Ring- 2014", a competition “ A healthy and strong man is the support of the family" among family teams in Yaroslavl and a race "Our fathers are  the strongest" in Yakutsk. In Cheboksary people enjoyed "Exercises with a star," which were conducted by Olimpiada   Ivanova, World and European champion in race walking, silver medalist of the XVIII Olympic Games, Honored Master of Sports of Russia.

Workshops on healthy cooking were part of WOD celebrations in many cities. Delicious fish dishes were cooked in Yakutsk, dairy desserts- in St. Petersburg . "Dairy festivals" were held in Ivanovo, Arkhangelsk, Rostov-on-Don and other cities of Russia. Students, school children and the kindergarten kids were involved in sports activities .The family members of the patient  society “OSTEORUS  " competed  in Yaroslavl.

   Children in some Russian cities enjoyed participating in the drawing competition "My father is the strongest".  The best drawings will be used in a 2016 calendar. The events took place in sports centers, fitness grounds and stadiums.

  All-Russia Roundtable  “Attention :Osteoporosis. Don’t Step Back and Don’t Give Up” was held in St. Petersburg.  An Olympic figure skating champion Elena Berezhnaya and a famous circus performer Nikolai Balashov participated in it. Thirty-five  central mass media representatives were present.

In Moscow a” Special Day on Prevention of Osteoporosis” was sponsored by the Center of prevention of osteoporosis (Ministry of Health of the Russian Federation) on the basis of the Scientific Research Institute of Rheumatology named after V.A. Nasonova and All-Russia non-profit organization of disabled people .

  Yaroslavl hosted an inter-regional scientific conference for specialists “Healthy Male Longevity”. A students’ scientific conference “Osteoporosis is a silent epidemic” and a scientific conference for health specialists “Common pathways and clinical crossroads”  took place in Yakutsk .The focus on men was made in the WOD celebrations in Cheboksary .A roundtable for the employees of ”Gazprom” “ Healthy Lifestyle of workers is important for the enterprise! " was a significant event in Surgut.

One-Minute Osteoporosis Risk Test were translated into Russian, published and successfully used in organizing WOD activities all over Russia. The newspaper "Caution, osteoporosis!" and the magazine "The Academy of Health." were also published for WOD celebrations . The WOD events were broadly covered  in newspapers and TV programs all over the country. A lot of information was also posted in social networks. The history of a patient from Cheboksary and announcements of events were posted on the site of IOF.  T-shirts with the symbol of WOD -2014 were produced and distributed to the participants of different events.  In WOD celebrations 2014 the focus was made on participation of men and families in all activities and on prevention and treatment of osteoporosis .
